I listened to it rain all night long and thought what should I do, ride in rain, stay put till it stops, spend another day in this town, or ride in the car. I opted for for wait till it stops and set out at 10 am. I got lucky and did not experience much rain and enjoyed another tailwind.
When you check the weather and see rain, a temperature of 6, and a high of seven with a 90% chance of more rain you don’t get too excited about getting out of bed and going for a bike ride but I did.

Too bad the cloud cover was so low but every now and then the highway gods lifted the cloud curtain and gave me a preview of one of the most beautiful places on earth. I got a glimpse of glaciers and snow-capped towering mountains, waterfalls, lakes, and fast-moving streams. The ride ended up being a good ride but a short ride of 77k and 900m.

What does one wear when it is three degrees, pouring rain, and a strong tailwind? Today, I have chosen the following: merino wool knee-high socks, waterproof hiking boots, merino wool long underwear bottoms and top, riding shorts, waterproof rain pants, a high quality warm and thick shirt, a cotton tee shirt, my Alaska jacket, and a waterproof rain jacket with hood. A neck warmer used for pulling over my head, then the hood of my jacket, and finally, my helmet. On my hands, I have one pair of merino wool gloves covered by another thick waterproof set of gloves.
I hope this is sufficient to keep the cold out and to keep me dry.
