A couple of days ago, I was riding on a quiet country road here in Costa Rica. I have ridden and driven this road on many occasions. As I was cycling, I noticed a dirt road on my right. I wondered where it led, so I stopped to think about checking it out when I heard the waves from the sea splashing on the shore. That convinced me to venture down the road. Low and behold, in just 150 m, I found myself in a place of outstanding beauty.
I was standing on the shore
of a beautiful bay with green, turquoise, and blue water—lots of rocks and tide pools along the beach for snorkeling or just swimming in the tranquil waters.
This find was another serendipity moment to find nice things not searched for.
I spent a few moments taking in the view when a spearfishing man appeared with a half dozen freshly caught fish. We said hello, and he went on his way, and I decided to leave as well but promising to return very soon.
On a similar note on weekends I like to check the various hotel booking sites to see if there are any deeply discounted hotels for a last minute booking. This especially true during the “Green Season”. This weekend we booked into Los Altos de Eras, a small boutique hotel with only six rooms on a high hill over looking the ocean.
We had a quite night with the owners and one other couple. The hotel has a spa which seemed very popular as several locals arrived the next morning for their spa day.
Here in Costa Rica there are plenty of spectacular small hotels ticked away in the mountains just waiting for people to venture down a rough road into the mountains to discover the properties.
