Last night was spent in a lovely apartment hotel in San Juan, the province’s capital with the same name. The ride into San Juan was uneventful other than long, 163k. However, we met up at lunchtime with our road warrior friends from Spain, Ivan and Manon. There is something special about meeting road warriors a second time. We share a special bond that unites us. The currency situation here continues to annoy and create minor problems. This is because I am using Western Union to change money. I have been wiring 500 Canadians to myself. Then I go and pick up Argentinian pesos. The problem occurs as we run low on funds because the WU office is closed for good, not open, or does not have enough money. Yesterday, Gloria waited in line until I rode up on my bike only to find they did not have enough money, and we had to return later. I cursed but cycled to the hotel, and Gloria waited at the WU office. About an hour later, she called and said they got a shipment of cash so I caught a cab and went back to the WU office. Success. Gloria has so much patience as I would not have waited.
