The ride from Yarumal to Medellin was 117k and 2100m along a scenic highway. The countryside continued to be green and lush.
The farms in this area were all dairy farms. The farms were unique in that the farms built plastic-covered walkways for the cows. These walkways were kilometers long, and some had plastic on the windward side. We found out that the cows used these covered paths to keep clean. The cow path stayed dry, and hence the cows did not track a lot of mud into the barn at milking time.
The farms on the hillside used young bulls to transport the milk up the mountain to a waiting tanker truck.
We had a great 30k downhill, but a sore hand from breaking caused me to stop at least once to stretch the hands and the legs that got tired from not moving.
Then we had a 33k ride on a very busy and dangerous Autopista with trucks, buses, cars, and hundreds of motos. We did ride part of the way on a bike path, but it was not much safer than the road and much slower. The bike path had curbs, walkers, horses, motos, small restaurants, and the occasional deep hole on the path.
We arrived at Jim’s place for three nights in a beautiful area of the city with lots of restaurants, trees, and shops.
Thanks, Jim, for your hospitality; it is appreciated by all of us.
