My first e-bike purchase was two inexpensive e-bikes because I had clients that wanted to rent an ebike for one of my Costa Rican or Nicaraguan tours. To rent them, I had to find out how they performed, did I get a workout, and how best to maintain them. So I started riding e-bikes for my daily workouts. I immediately found them to be a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the ease that I climbed and how a headwind was no longer something to cause me to complain. Since then, I have purchased two more e-bikes. Now I ride a high-quality ebike for each workout.
Do I get a workout, or am I just riding a motorbike? Let’s examine a couple of days figures from my Strava posts
Both workouts were in ECO mode, on smooth pavement, and with no wind. Ride one burned 1256 calories, and my average heart rate was 121 with a maximum of 150, and 48% was in heart rate zone 2.
This second ride was much longer but not very much climbing. My heart rate was 130 to 157 and 48% in zone three. I burned 2709 calories over The 102 km. I know when I returned home, I felt I had done a decent workout on both occasions, and these posts seem to agree. I believe you can achieve excellent activities and improve your conditioning.
