We are now in a lovely city called Trujillo, Peru. The central square is beautiful, with lots of colorful buildings and shops.
Yesterday’s ride was flat and 130k in length. The route included dessert, giant dunes, kilometers of deserted beach, beach towns, and hectares and hectares of sugar cane, olives, elderberries, and various vegetables.
I have now confirmed with two taxi drivers and a friend that there are no traffic rules.
Everyone plays chicken and noses their car into any available space or opportunity. It’s difficult on a bike as we obey the rules. Traffic circles cause us a lot of grief, especially when trying to get out of the circle. We use a lot of hand waving, gestures, and pointing and hope they give way.
