Today I decided to drive north to La Cruz which is about 65 km away. I had not been on a ride in that area for some time. Golfo de Santa Elena is a beautiful area that borders Nicaragua.
On the way I had to stop to witness my first cattle drive in
Costs Rica. Ten cowboys were driving perhaps 159-200 cows down the Pan American Highway.
At the very end, maybe 500 meters behind the herd another cow boy was escorting a big powerful looking bull.
I continued to La Cruz which is a small city situated high on the escarpment overlooking the beautiful gulf. I took the long steep descent to the sea.
It did not take me long before I realized my legs were not into the ride. However I persevered and fortunately my mind was ready to enjoy the many beaches that are situated along the gulf shores.
When I stopped at a beach where the fishing fleet seems to be located for that side of the peninsula I found some fishermen bringing their catch ashore.
A bucket full of lobsters and one octopus.
The right photos shows the divers spear gun and the long yellow hose he uses for beathing. The ride had an easy start but the final climb was a doozy. The bike had no problem with the hill but I was still done in at the end of the ride and quickly downed a Gatorade and a beer for recovery.
